CoPF summons officials for inquiry on visa today

The Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) Chairman and MP Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday confirmed the summoning of the Public Security Ministry Secretary and the Immigration and Emigration Department Controller General for a balanced inquiry today (9).

“While it is customary for all public finance related legislation to be routed through CoPF, this strangely was not,” he noted via ‘X’.

The visa controversy raged into the Parliament yesterday with Opposition MPs describing it similar to the infamous bond scam as well as a daylight robbery.  Many Opposition MPs emphasised the decisions of financial significance cannot bypass Parliamentary approval.
