The Parliament Committee on Public Finance has granted approval to regulations issued under the Import and Export (Control) Act No. 1 of 1969 as published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2437/04 dated 19 May 2025. These regulations presented on 17 June were reviewed by the Committee at its meeting held on 24 June Chaired by MP Dr. Harsha de Silva
In response to the ongoing shortage of salt in the local market, the approved regulations permit the import of raw salt that has not been iodised, in addition to iodised edible salt in both powdered and crystal forms, both household and industrial purposes.
