  • Accolade for Resplendent Ceylon further promotes Sri Lanka to affluent travellers

Condé Nast Traveller has unveiled the 2023 Gold List, highlighting favourite classic hotels around the world that exemplify the gold standard of service and hospitality.

Ceylon Tea Trails is the first Sri Lankan hotel to make this prestigious annual roundup.

Launched in the US in 1987, Condé Nast Traveller is the leading monthly travel magazine, with nine international editions.

“The Gold List is a chosen few of the best hotels in the world; authentic classics that have crafted their reputation over many years,” Resplendent Ceylon Managing Director Malik Fernando said.

“I never dreamed it possible when we started; it is an accolade not only for Ceylon Tea Trails but for our island home Sri Lanka – it is Sri Lankan hospitality, the warmth and generosity that has won this recognition,” he added.

Ceylon Tea Trails comprises five restored historic tea planter residences, called bungalows, perched at an altitude of 1250 metres in Sri Lanka’s panoramic Ceylon tea region. 27 rooms and suites are named after tea planters of old, who once called these historic bungalows home.

“I am incredibly proud that our bungalows in the hills are the first recipient of this recognition, and hope there will be many more in Sri Lanka in the years to come,” Malik added.

Resplendent Ceylon CEO Maheesha Ratnayake said: “To us, the Gold List is recognition and testament to our efforts over the last 18 years having provided curated, personalised, and incredibly warm service at Ceylon Tea Trails. The team is unlike any other; their commitment, drive and passion, and most importantly love for the bungalows and our guests over the years is what has eventually culminated in this wonderful recognition.”

The long-running Gold List is the most awaited travel announcement of the year. The list reflects the sensibilities and taste of the editors and readers from across the world when it comes to travel. It is also a great testament to experiential travel and hotels that deliver authenticity and world-class hospitality.
