Central Bank of Sri Lanka publishes ‘Market Operations Report – June 2025’

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) released its third Market Operations Report (MOR) on 31 July 2025. The aim of the MOR is to enhance awareness and knowledge among the stakeholders on monetary operations and foreign exchange operations carried out by the Central Bank in implementing monetary policy under the Flexible Inflation Target (FIT), supported by the flexible exchange rate regime.

The latest report summarises key policy measures, liquidity trends, short-term interest rate and exchange rate movements, money market and domestic foreign exchange market operations etc., in the first half of 2025. The MOR also presents two feature articles on timely topics and includes selected indicators of market operations and transactions.

The key highlights:

Liquidity in the domestic money market has consistently remained at surplus levels thus far in 2025.

The CBSL intervention in the domestic money market by way of conducting reverse repo auctions was discontinued since the end of January 2025, considering improved liquidity among market participants and market activities.

Short-term interest rates indicated greater stability in line with the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR).

The interbank market has shown signs of normalisation, with improved market activities.

Sri Lanka rupee depreciated marginally against the US dollar.

The CBSL intervened in the domestic foreign exchange market to build foreign reserves and curtail excessive volatility in the exchange rate.
