The Government will halt work on the Public Enterprise Management Bill published in 2024 and have a new Bill drafted, Cabinet Spokesperson and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.

He was speaking at the media briefing on decisions taken at Monday’s (12) Cabinet meeting. Dr. Jayatissa said the Legal Draftsman will prepare the new Bill based on a preliminary draft by a committee of officials and subject experts. The committee had reviewed the earlier Bill and identified the amendments needed.

The Cabinet approved the original Bill on 22 July, 2024, and it was published in an Extraordinary Gazette on 2 August, 2024. It could not be passed because Parliament was dissolved later that year. The President presented the proposal.
