Cabinet approval has been given to amend authority limits of procurement committees in the Highways, Water Supply, Power, Port and Urban Development Ministries, among others, to speed up project implementation.

The Cabinet paper was presented by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Finance Minister. The expansion of authority limits is targeted at implementing numerous projects designed under the 2021-2021 Medium-Term Budgetary Framework.

“Under the new policy contract awarding authority limits in the Highways, Water Supply, Irrigation, Power, Port and Urban Development Ministries will be expanded. The procurement committees of these Ministries will now have the capacity to fast track project implementation so that the Government’s development goals are met,” Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
