The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved two major contracts worth over Rs. 2 billion under the National Highways Widening and Improvement Program to rehabilitate key sections of the Colombo-Galle-Hambantota-Wellawaya Road (A002), a critical transport artery linking the country’s southern region.
Under the first contract, a 13.3-kilometre stretch between Kamburugamuwa and Dewinuwara will be rehabilitated and upgraded at a cost of Rs. 1,207.74 million. The contract has been awarded to RR Construction Ltd., following a competitive bidding process that attracted four submissions, with the High-Level Procurement Committee recommending the substantially responsive lowest bidder.
In a separate award, a 12.33-kilometre section between Talalla and Kudawella will be improved at a cost of Rs. 818.23 million. The contract was awarded to Rathna-Suhada Joint Venture Civil Engineers and Contractors Ltd., after seven bids were evaluated, with the High-Level Procurement Committee selecting the lowest responsive bidder.
The proposals to this effect were submitted by the Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
