The Cabinet of Ministers approved recognising the ‘Sri Lanka National Export Development Plan 2026-2030’ as the official strategic framework for the development and promotion of the country’s exports.
The 2025 Budget proposed the preparation of a National Export Development Plan (NEDP) as a national priority for improving export competitiveness and achieving sustainable export-led economic growth. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders involved in the export sector, has prepared the strategic framework with technical assistance under the Policy-Based Loan Program of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
“The plan provides a comprehensive framework for guiding and monitoring Sri Lanka’s export development process, with a target of earning $ 36 billion in foreign exchange from exports of merchandise and services by 2030,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunneththi.
