Cabinet clears Belarus pacts on aviation, education and health ahead of Ministerial visit

  • Minister Vijitha Herath to visit Belarus from 12–15 May

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved signing of three bilateral agreements with Belarus covering aviation, higher education and health cooperation, ahead of an official visit by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath to the country this week.

The Minister is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Belarus from 12 to 15 May to strengthen diplomatic and sectoral cooperation between the two countries.

As part of the visit, the Cabinet approved the signing of an Air Services Agreement between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Belarus, paving the way for enhanced aviation connectivity and potential future air links between the two countries.

Approval was also granted for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Higher Education Cooperation between Sri Lanka’s Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Ministry and Belarus’ Education Ministry, with the aim of expanding academic exchanges, institutional partnerships and educational collaboration.

In addition, the Cabinet cleared an MOU on Health Cooperation between Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry and Belarus’ Health Ministry to strengthen collaboration in healthcare services, medical training and sector development.
