The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved a proposal to transfer a 219.7233 hectare land as a grant to the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) for a 100 MW solar power project in Siyambalanduwa.
The project, identified as a key initiative under the country’s energy policy, will be developed on 219.7233 hectares of land that is currently unused for farming or cultivation.
“Considering the strategic importance of the proposed project, it was approved to facilitate its swift commencement,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
The Government expects to fulfil 70% of the electricity demand of the country from renewable power sources by the year 2030. Thus, the project marks a major milestone in achieving the country’s long-term sustainability objectives, he added.
