The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of a Visa Waiver Agreement for Ordinary Passport Holders between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Announcing the decision at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the agreement is aimed at further strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries and making travel easier for their citizens.
“Under its terms, citizens of both countries holding valid ordinary passports will be able to enter, exit and transit the other country without a prior visa. Each stay may last up to 30 days, with a cumulative stay of no more than 90 days within any period of 180 days,” he explained.
Dr. Jayatissa said the waiver applies to general tourism only. “It does not cover employment, education, media work or any other activity that requires prior approval,” he added.
The proposal to this effect was submitted by Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala.
