The Colombo stock market rallied yesterday to end the week on a strong note with both indices gaining over 1% during the session. During the week, ASPI gained 1.42% or 304.53 points and the S&P SL20 was up 0.89% or 53.58%
During yesterday’s session, with 175 counters ending in green against 57 in red, the ASPI was up 1.05% or 225.33 points at 21,620.44 and the S&P SL20 was up 1.06% or 63.67 points at 6,058.92. The top contributors to the ASPI were DIAL, HAYL, RIL, CCS and DOCK.
Market turnover was over Rs. 2.6 billion on over 79 million shares traded. Foreign investors were net sellers on a net outflow of Rs. 66.9 million.
First Capital Research said bourse advanced, supported by positive sentiment of global financial markets with ASPI recording the highest intraday gain in two and a half months. Retail participation increased compared to the previous session, while HNW activity remained relatively subdued.
Relatively high activity was observed among counters in the materials sector, consistent with the previous session. The food, beverage and tobacco sector led the daily turnover with a share of 24%, followed by the capital goods, and materials sectors collectively contributing 37%.
