ASPI movement during the week
The Colombo stock market failed to sustain early trading gains yesterday to end marginally down.
During the week, the ASPI declined 2.54% and the S&P SL20 fell 2.2% with market capitalisation falling by Rs. 206 billion.
Yesterday, the ASPI was down 0.07% or 16.18 points at 21,744.13 and the S&P SL20 was down 0.13% or 7.73 points at 6,024.00.
Market turnover was nearly Rs. 2.98 billion on over 112.6 million shares traded. Foreign investors emerged as net buyers on a net inflow of Rs. 113.2 million.
First Capital Research said the selling sentiment witnessed in the previous session continued to weigh on investor activity. HNW participation remained high, while retail participation stayed at average levels.
The negative contributors to the ASPI were COMB, HAYL, JKH, WIND, and SPEN. The capital goods sector led the daily turnover with a share of 42%, followed by the food beverage and tobacco, and insurance sectors collectively contributing 23%.
