CSE ends week on the up

The Colombo stock market yesterday ended a volatile week on a rebound on buoyant investor sentiment. However, during the week, the ASPI had declined 0.5% while the S&P SL20 gained 0.1%.

Yesterday, the ASPI ended up 1.73% or 367.41 points at 21,637.43 as 208 counters closed in the green against 35 in red. The active S&P SL20 was up 1.55%, or 91.77 points at 6,027.05.

Turnover was below Rs. 2 billion on over 83.8 million shares traded. Foreign investors were back as net buyers on a net inflow of Rs. 24.4 million.

First Capital Research said investor sentiment improved during the session as easing geopolitical concerns boosted buying interest in selected blue-chip counters. HNW participation remained low, while retail participation remained at average levels. 

The positive contributors to the ASPI were HNB, COMB, JKH, DFCC, and RIL. The banking sector led daily turnover with a share of 25%, followed by the capital goods and materials sectors, which collectively contributed 22%.
