COVID-19 death toll yesterday exceeded 9,000, less than one week after it crossed the 8,000 mark.
On 25 August, health officials confirmed 209 COVID-19 deaths, raising the total fatalities to 8,157.
On 30 August, health officials confirmed 194 COVID-19 deaths, which raised the death toll to 9,185.
The deaths confirmed yesterday include 146 persons over the age of 60, 45 persons aged between 30 and 59, and three persons below the age of 30. The Epidemiology Unit states that 76% of the total fatalities are in the above 60 age category, while 22.98% are between ages 30 and 59 and 1.02% are below the age of 30.
Of the deaths confirmed on Monday, 100 were male and 94 were female. The country’s COVID-19 death toll consists of 5,227 fatalities that are male and 3,958 fatalities that are female.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 83.5% of the COVID-19 deaths confirmed by 27 August were persons who had not received a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of the 16.5% that were vaccinated, 13.5% had received only one dose and 3% had received both doses.
