The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has introduced a new tariff structure to purchase electricity generated from Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) linked to existing ground-mounted and rooftop solar power plants.
In a statement, the CEB said electricity discharged from battery storage during the night peak hours, between 6.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m., will be bought at Rs. 45.80 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
The new tariff aims to promote the adoption of energy storage technologies by solar power producers, enabling them to store daytime solar generation and feed it into the national grid during peak evening demand.
According to the CEB, the scheme applies to developers of existing ground-mounted solar power projects as well as rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) customers who integrate battery storage into their systems.
