The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has extended its closing date for 104 MW of supplementary power from 16 January to 30 January. This brings the 104 MW tender closing date in line with the 96 MW tender which also has a closing date of 30 January, Power and Energy Ministry Spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena told the Daily FT.

The tenders, published for 104 MW and 96 MW separately, were for a duration of 12 months, but a letter dated 8 January issued by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) stated that approval was granted for a duration of 30 months.

In the letter, the PUCSL instructs the CEB to amend the duration and republish the tender. A decision on the matter was taken by the Procurement Committee last Friday. Accordingly, the closing date for the 104 MW supplementary power tender has been extended, while the closing date for the 96 MW of supplementary power was stated as 30 January in the tender notice published on 26 December 2019.

While the extension notice published on the CEB website for the 104 MW supplementary power states that all other terms, conditions and dates stated in the advertisement will remain unchanged, Jayawardena said: “The duration is initially for 12 months, but if there is a requirement, it can be extended up to 30 months.”
