The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) yesterday issued an advisory outlining how the public should manage wet or flood-affected currency notes following the recent devastation.
The guidance urges people to separate damp notes carefully without pulling them apart if they are stuck together. Once separated, the notes should be wrapped in absorbent material and left to dry at room temperature.
The CBSL advises placing the notes on a clean, dry surface, avoiding coloured or printed materials that may contaminate them. It also cautions against using hot water, detergents or chemicals, stressing that notes must be air-dried naturally in a well-ventilated area.
After drying, any notes that are no longer fit for use can be submitted to commercial banks for exchange.
