The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has categorically denied a recent statement made by Kasagala Green Plantation Ltd., (KGPL) in a TV program as factually incorrect, misleading, and having no legal basis.

The CBSL was responding to Kasagala Green Plantation Director Malwattage Ranjith Nandana Pieris on 8 June on the ‘Pini Viyana’ television program on Independent Television Network, Sri Lanka (ITN) stating inter alia that KGPL (i) is an entity regulated by the CBSL; (ii) submits information/documents/data required by the CBSL every six months’ time to the CBSL; and (iii) if any concern exists, the CBSL would inquire into the same from KGPL.

“Having noted that the said statements made by Pieris are capable of causing serious damage to the public who view the said TV program through electronic and social media, the public is hereby informed that as at present, an investigation is being carried out by the CBSL with regard to the activities of KGPL under the provisions of the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011 (FBA) to ascertain whether this company has carried on or is carrying on finance business or has accepted or is accepting deposits from the public in contravention of the provisions of Section 2 of the FBA,” the CBSL notice said.
