Browns EV, a unit of Brown & Company PLC, yesterday announced that it has partnered with global electric vehicle (EV) brands SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) and Beijing Auto Works (BAW) to introduce three affordable models to the Sri Lankan market.
The company said the EVs represent a “carefully curated range of premium-quality and price-conscious vehicles, making sustainable automobile ownership available to all our fellow citizens.”
Vehicle affordability has long been a challenge in Sri Lanka, where import restrictions and high prices have placed new vehicles beyond the reach of most consumers. Browns EV said its entry is aimed at addressing this gap at a time when many households are still struggling to own a car.
“Our very own People’s Car, the BAW-E7, priced at a mere Rs. 4.7 million, has turned the long-held dream of EV ownership into a viable reality for countless Sri Lankans. Driving nationwide inclusive adoption, the E7 is a sleek and compact 5-seater, 5-door car built for effortless urban commuting. Packed with smart and safe features while providing a holistically economical and efficient drive, the nation’s most affordable EV arrives exclusively at Browns later this month, currently available for pre-order,” the company said.
“For our customers valuing greater performance and heightened luxury, we are pleased to announce that the Wuling Binguo and Cloud are currently available for sale with us at Browns EV, priced at just Rs. 8.1 million and Rs. 12.4 million, respectively. A perfect choice for both families and professionals, combining generous space with modern sophistication, the Wuling EVs elevate the driving experience with unmatched comfort and cutting-edge technology,” it added.

The company also announced extended warranties across its entire EV line-up.
Browns EV Director Niveyn Nanayakkara said: “Following years of import restrictions that have deprived our market of vehicle ownership, Sri Lankans have been waiting for vehicles that are not only high in quality but also genuinely financially accessible. Visiting the factories and inspecting our EV line-up myself, I knew it was exactly what our market needed – a smart, reliable, sustainable, and affordable mode of transportation. We are not only bringing the global EV evolution to Sri Lanka, but are also making the dream of vehicle ownership a reality for everyday consumers – a win-win for our country. As someone continuing a legacy in the motor industry, it’s an honour and privilege to introduce a solution that speaks to the future.”
LOLC Holdings and Brown & Company PLC Chairman Ishara Nanayakkara said: “The launch of Browns EV marks a momentous milestone in our journey of providing intrinsic solutions to the Sri Lankan household. This is a historic point in Sri Lanka’s mobility landscape as we provide options that are not only affordable to purchase but equally affordable to maintain and use on a day-to-day basis.”
“This initiative reflects our belief that true progress comes from empowering people through access, opportunity, and innovation. For 150 years, Browns has adapted to the needs of the people as we continue to propel economic development and social upliftment in this very nation we call home. Once again, we are addressing a pressing national need by restoring access to vehicle ownership to the millions of Sri Lankans who have long awaited this opportunity. Browns, in collaboration with LOLC, looks to provide a holistic end-to-end service with inclusive financing, insurance, and after-care services all under one roof, creating ripple effects across employment, entrepreneurship, and consumer sentiment,” he added.
Wuling, the world’s second-largest EV brand, has been the first Chinese automaker to produce over 3 million EVs. BAW is one of the oldest and second-largest automotive enterprises in China. Their expansion into Sri Lanka is supported by the legacy of Brown & Company and its parent LOLC, one of the country’s largest diversified conglomerates.
Browns EV said it plans to open showrooms across the country and introduce more high-end vehicles. It is also investing in Sri Lanka’s largest EV charging infrastructure network to ensure affordable and reliable nationwide access. Customers will be offered financing through LOLC Finance and other banks, insurance solutions through LOLC Insurance, and after-sales support via Browns Care.
Test drives are currently available at the Browns EV showroom on T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10.
