In a bid to boost tourism and entertain existing visitors, the Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved to implement a new initiative, ‘Marine Nights: Awakening Colombo.’
Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the requirement of structural access to uplift the local economy, to boost the tourism industry, and to increase the experiences of tourists in Colombo has been recognised; hence, the need for night-time tourism activities.
He said on a proposal by Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, the Cabinet approved a project for the development of Colombo Marine Drive from Colpetty station to Dehiwala station, about 7.4 km in length, under the theme ‘Marine Nights: Awakening Colombo.’
He said the move is expected to draw more attention towards the area of 400 metres from Galle Face end to S. Thomas’ Primary School.
