  • Part of company strategy to accelerate expansion in Asia
  • In partnership with LOLC Group Browns Investments, plans to launch another new establishment in Sri Lanka in November

Barceló Hotel Group has announced the opening of the Occidental Paradise Dambulla in Sri Lanka, a 67-room, four-star hotel located in the ancient town of Dambulla.

This opening is part of the strategy announced by the company this summer by which Barceló accelerates its expansion in Asia, since it will add another new establishment in Sri Lanka in November.

The deal was signed in December 2019 with Browns Investments, a subsidiary of LOLC Group, one of Sri Lanka’s largest business conglomerates.

The agreement includes the management of two new hotels in The Maldives, due to open in December, as well as the future development of a three-hotel, five-star resort in North Male Atoll, also in The Maldives.

Occidental Paradise Dambulla is located in the heart of the ‘Cultural Triangle’, a strategic location close to some of the world’s oldest cities, such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Digamadulla, as well as the ancient city of Dambulla and its Golden Temple, or the sacred city of Kandy and its Temple of the Tooth.

The hotel has 67 rooms overlooking its gardens. As far as the gastronomic offer is concerned, the Orchid restaurant offers local and international dishes, as well as the Pizzeria al Forno, specialising in artisanal pizzas prepared in a wood-fired oven. The leisure offer is completed by the Blu Elephant Bar and the Pool Bar, with Ceylon teas and traditional pastries.

Guests can enjoy a wellness area with the Ayu Balinese Spa, which offers treatments inspired by Eastern tradition and culture, as well as a gym. The Occidental Hotels and Resorts brand offers its guests stays with a focus on sustainability, with measures that support the environment, local products, society and energy efficiency management, consumption, the elimination of single-use plastics, waste management or the use of uniforms made of recycled fabric, as well as awareness and team commitment.
