BOC announces Acting GM/CEO

The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) yesterday announced the appointment of Y.A. Jayathilaka as the Acting General Manager(GM)/CEO with the conclusion of the service period of W.P.R.P.H. Fonseka, who held the post until 5 August 2025, as per the terms and conditions of his service contract.

Prior to the Acting appointment, Jayathilaka was Deputy General Manager – Product and Banking Development.

He was appointed to the Corporate Management of the bank in February 2020 and has since held several key leadership positions, including Deputy General Manager (Support Services), Deputy General Manager (Recovery – Provinces), Deputy General Manager (Development Banking and Branch Credit Operations), and Deputy General Manager (Products and Banking Development).

Prior to his appointment to the Corporate Management, Jayathilaka served as a member of

the Executive Management for five years, from April 2015, where he held roles such as Assistant General Manager (Product Development and Business Process Re-engineering), Assistant General Manager (Central Province), and Assistant General Manager (Province Sales Management).

With over 28 years of experience in the banking sector, Jayathilaka has gained extensive exposure across a wide range of banking operations. His expertise spans core banking functions including branch credit, development banking, and recovery; treasury operations such as foreign exchange trading, money markets, capital markets, and investment management; and overseas operations. He has also led major project implementations in core banking systems, trade finance platforms, workflow automation, and mobile banking applications, and has played a leading role in product development, digital transformation, and innovation.

Jayathilaka holds a Bachelor of Science (Special) degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a Master of Business (Finance) from the University of

Kelaniya. He also holds a Diploma in Banking and Finance and is an Associate Member of the

Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. He has completed the Advanced Course in Strategic Management at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, as well as the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at INSEAD University, France.
