President Anura Kumara Disanayake yesterday underscored the urgent need to accelerate rural road development initiatives, directing officials to prioritise their timely completion as part of the broader national infrastructure agenda.
He made this directive during a progress review meeting under the 2025 Budget allocations to assess ongoing projects of the Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry attended by top officials held at the Presidential Secretariat.
During the discussion, officials provided an update on the progress of ongoing projects in the highways and transport sectors, highlighting both achievements and challenges faced during implementation.
Particular attention was given to the status of initiatives funded under the 2025 Budget.
The meeting was attended by Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal
Rathnayake, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena; Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera; Senior Additional Secretaries to the President Russell Aponso and Kapila Janaka Bandara, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.
