President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has congratulated Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of the Republic of India.
In a congratulatory message, Dissanayake described the milestone as a reflection of the trust and confidence repeatedly placed in his leadership by the people of the world’s largest democracy.
“This milestone is a testament not only to your years in office, but also to the trust and confidence that the people of the world’s largest democracy have repeatedly placed in your leadership. In a democracy as vast, diverse, and dynamic as India, securing the public mandate in successive elections are a remarkable achievement. It speaks to your exceptional governance capabilities, the delivery of tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary people, and your ability to earn and sustain public confidence and trust through periods of both opportunity and challenge. Over the tenure of your government, India has undergone remarkable economic and social transformation,” it added.
The President also praised India’s economic and social transformation under Modi’s leadership and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, while expressing appreciation for India’s support during challenging periods for the country.
“India has strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading economies and has emerged as an increasingly influential voice in regional and global affairs. India has pursued ambitious goals with determination and confidence under your leadership. Sri Lanka has been privileged to work closely with India during this period of transformation. Over your three terms in office, the partnership between our two countries has reached new heights, founded on mutual trust, geographical proximity, deep civilisation links, and a shared commitment to the prosperity of our peoples. We are especially grateful for India’s steadfast friendship, and for your personal intervention and support during challenging times for Sri Lanka. On this historic occasion, as India continues its journey towards greater prosperity and achievement, I look forward to building on the unprecedented momentum in relations between our two countries,” the statement noted.
