The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the implementation of the $ 100 million Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded capacity and quality upgrade initiative targeting secondary treatment hospitals countrywide.

The ADB has agreed to provide the funds in a result-based Budget assistance to support major revamp of hospitals which will run from 2025 to 2030.

“The aim is to enhance hospital infrastructure and service quality, standardised healthcare delivery, improve the pharmaceutical supply chain, and increase transparency and efficiency in health procurement and financing systems,” Cabinet Spokesman and Healthcare Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Health Minister Dr. Jayatissa was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
