AASL records highest-ever monthly passenger traffic in January

Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd., (AASL) yesterday announced that the country’s airports recorded the highest-ever passenger movements in a single month, marking a major milestone for the country’s aviation sector.

In January 2026, Sri Lanka’s airports handled 1,045,097 passengers, surpassing the previous record of 1,034,687 passengers set in January 2018.

AASL said the achievement reflects the sustained recovery and expansion of Sri Lanka’s aviation and tourism industries, supported by increased airline operations, renewed traveller confidence, and operational improvements across airport facilities.

The new record underscores the sector’s post-crisis rebound and signals continued upward momentum in international connectivity and passenger traffic growth.
