The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd., (AASL) has registered a strong financial turnaround in 2025, posting a profit of Rs. 19.06 billion, reflecting an increase of Rs. 5.02 billion compared to the previous year.
This was revealed during the company’s 2025 progress review meeting conducted under the patronage of Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilaka, with the participation of Deputy Minister Janitharuwan Kodithuwakku and Ministry Secretary W.W.S. Mangala at BIA in Katunayake.
Senior officials of the Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry and AASL also attended the session, which focused on operational performance, infrastructure development and post-disaster recovery.
During the meeting, AASL management briefed the Minister on short-term development work currently underway at the airport passenger terminal, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and improving passenger comfort.
Proposed development plans scheduled for implementation in 2026 were also discussed, with emphasis on sustaining growth in passenger traffic and service quality.
The meeting was attended by AASL Chairman Rhasa Abeywickrema, Airport Chief Manager Aruna Rajapaksa, Director Primal De Silva, along with senior airport and ministry officials. Discussions highlighted the company’s improved financial performance despite operational challenges faced during the year.
Officials also reviewed the impact of the severe Cyclone Ditwah and the subsequent flooding, which temporarily disrupted airport operations.
It was noted that both the airport and the national airline implemented special arrangements to manage passenger needs during the emergency, ensuring continuity of essential services under difficult conditions.
Minister Karunathilaka expressed appreciation for the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by AASL management and staff during the disaster period, commending their role in maintaining airport operations and assisting affected passengers.
He called on all stakeholders to actively contribute to the broader national effort to rebuild the country in the aftermath of the disaster.
Following the meeting, the Minister and officials undertook an inspection tour of the airport terminal, including areas where short-term development work is currently in progress. The inspection focused on projects designed to improve passenger flow, operational efficiency and overall service standards.
The Minister assured officials that necessary facilities and approvals would be provided without delay to ensure the timely completion of these works.
