Starting today, the US will impose a 50% tariff on $ 60.2 billion worth of Indian exports from apparel and textiles to gems and jewellery, shrimp, carpets and furniture.
Two days earlier Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India would withstand the economic pressure from the unilateral Trump move.
“Today in this world, there is politics of economic self-interest, everyone looks out for themselves. We are witnessing this,” he told a public rally in Ahmedabad. “No matter how much pressure comes, we will keep increasing our strength to withstand it,” he added.
