People’s Bank partners Dialog Axiata to provide banking information via mobile

People’s Bank, the largest bank in Sri Lanka with over 680 branches islandwide and 12 million customers joined Dialog Axiata, the telecom operator with the largest customer base, to introduce an innovative new service to educate customers on its financial services products via mobile.

This is the first time a Sri Lankan bank is using a mobile platform to push information on its products and services, and the Bank’s 12 million strong customer base with Dialog mobiles will now have access to every information on its suite of personal, corporate and development banking products.

 

What makes this application unique is that information on People’s Bank could be obtained on demand via a customised USSD portal whereby users could obtain information of choice. In addition, Dialog Mobile will push regular updates on People’s Bank services to users who subscribe to the service.

Speaking at the signing of the MoU the General Manager/CEO of People’s Bank N. Vasantha Kumar said, “With this tie up People’s Bank has advanced to the forefront in technology to serve our customers and we are proud to have taken leadership in introducing mobile banking services, without discrimination to all segments of society. Our intention is to provide correct information in a timely and efficient manner and we hope this partnership brings about many fruitful benefits to our loyal customers. The next stage of this project will see certain banking transaction being implemented through mobile technology.”

Dialog Axiata Group Chief Executive, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, said: “Our association with People’s Bank is a convergence of two of Sri Lanka’s largest service providers with the power to enrich and transform millions of Sri Lankan lives. The pioneer in taking banking services to the rural masses, this tie up with Dialog Axiata seeks to bring People’s Bank closer to the public by making banking information available to all its customers, not just privileged customers. This technology was launched to coincide with the Bank’s 50th anniversary which is celebrated this year, and is also in line with the Government of Sri Lanka’s vision to take IT to the village.
