Mastercard Foundation invites Chandula

To lead discussion on ‘Youth Empowerment through Entrepreneurship’ at the Financial Inclusion Symposium in Kigali

Chandula Abeywickrema, senior commercial banker and Chairman of Asia’s largest microfinance network Banking With The Poor Network (BWTP), has been invited by Toronto-based Mastercard Foundation lead the discussion on Youth Empowerment through BUP_DFTDFT-8-Chandula Youth Entrepreneurship Incubation’ at The Mastercard Symposium on Financial Inclusion 2016 focusing the Africa continent. Symposium will be held from 20 to 21 October in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Mastercard Foundation was establish as an independent non-profit organisation in 2006 by Mastercard to mainly prioritising on initiatives for poverty reduction in Africa. Most of the initiatives of the foundation is increasing access to education, skills training, and access finance for the poor.

The Mastercard Foundation Financial Inclusion Symposium 2016 brings together more than 300 of the world’s leading experts and practitioners in financial inclusion. The goal of the symposium is to inspire and catalyse financial service providers to think beyond their products and services and to cultivate more client-focused mindset that enhances the relevance and quality of financial services to the poor.

Chandula, who is well-respected senior banker with expertise in retail and development banking with over 30 years of tract record, is considered an expert in financial inclusion in Asia. He was appointed as the special advisor on Financial Inclusion to the Asian Bankers Association (ABA) which is the largest commercial bank network in Asia.
