HSBC warns against fraudulent SMS

HSBC Sri Lanka said yesterday it is alerting customers and non-customers to a smishing scam alert which link to fraudulent telephone numbers/websites/activities. HSBC said the bank has not sent these text messages to customers and non-customers and has no connection with the fraudulent activities involved. HSBC is also advising customers and non-customers to avoid calling the number mentioned or share any personal information such as National Identity Card number, addresses, passwords or bank credit/debit card details. “If customers are concerned they may have disclosed their personal details to suspicious parties, they should contact the HSBC customer service hotline at 0114 4722 00 or block their credit cards immediately if credit card details have been shared,” the Bank said in a statement.
