Policyholders of Ceylinco Life living in Colombo and the suburbs have been offered a free membership to 24-hour, on-call emergency medical services from Falck, the largest ambulance provider in the world. The one-year membership is valid for policyholders but can be extended to cover family members on payment of an additional fee, the company said. The Annual Membership Plan offered by Falck enables Ceylinco Life policyholders to call for an ambulance and have access to Falck’s professional out-of-hospital services round the clock. Falck has all member addresses GPS tracked to enable a speedy response. On arrival in response to a call, Falck’s trained doctors and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) provide emergency treatment and stabilisation of the patient before transport in European style ambulances to a hospital of the patient’s choice. “Here, once again, is a significant value addition that we have negotiated exclusively for our policyholders,” Ceylinco Life Managing Director/CEO R. Renganathan said. “It is a benefit that is worth far more than its monetary value, as it could in some cases, be life-saving.” The areas covered by Falck’s emergency medical services at present are those within the radius of Panadura in the south, Ja-Ela in the north and Maharagama in the east. The free membership will be extended to policyholders in other areas as Falck’s response area expands, the company said. According to a spokesperson for Falck, the company is paving way to revolutionise the healthcare system by driving the concept of pre-hospital emergency care in Sri Lanka. “Falck’s goal is to build a system in which all communities will be served by a well-planned and highly coordinated emergency care system that will ensure a reduction in preventable death and disability,” the spokesperson said. “The term EMS (Emergency Medical Services) evolved to reflect a change from a simple system of ambulances providing only transportation, to a system in which actual medical care is given on scene and during transport.” Independently rated one of Sri Lanka’s most valuable brands, Ceylinco Life has nearly a million lives covered by active policies. The company has maintained its leadership of the country’s long term insurance sector from 2004 onwards and operates the largest branch network among local life insurance companies. Ceylinco Life has won multiple international and local awards for its commitment to the community and its success in brand equity building.
