Ryan Perera
WEBXPAY, one of Sri Lanka’s leading fintech and digital payments companies, has appointed Ryan Perera to its Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director further strengthening its leadership.
Ryan is an accomplished banking and business executive whose experience spans banking, credit and debit cards products, financial services, capital markets, commercial enterprises, not for profits and international business.
With almost three decades of professional experience, Perera brings extensive expertise in business strategy, financial restructuring, new ventures, relationship management, operations, risk and compliance, as well as a strong track record in developing and growing financial services businesses.
Ryan’s expertise and valued counsel continue to strengthen the Board, alongside Executive Chairman Thilak Piyadigama and CEO Denver Lewis.
Ryan currently serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of 10X Global Ltd., and holds board positions in several entities including his work with the not for profits such as PJFM Trust Services, PJFM Global and PJFM Charity Foundation.
Previously, he served as Group Deputy CEO of Candor Holdings and Head of Private Banking and Prime Banking at Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC. His banking career also includes senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank whilst starting his banking career with Hatton National Bank PLC.
Among his achievements, Ryan developed and led high networth and mid-market banking propositions that built large deposit portfolios. His experience also includes the development of credit and debit card products, expansion of international customer segments, relationship management, customer experience, operational leadership, strengthening risk and compliance frameworks, digitalisation and global expansion.
His unique experience in financial services brings an important additional dimension to WEBXPAY’s Board. At a time when the company is broadening its digital payments proposition, his experience will add further depth, commercial perspective and industry insight to an already diverse leadership team.
WEBXPAY Executive Chairman Thilak Piyadigama said: “Ryan is an excellent fit for the WEBXPAY Board. His extensive banking experience, particularly his knowledge of credit and debit cards and financial services, adds another important dimension to our Board and complements the capabilities we already have. As WEBXPAY continues to evolve, we want our Board to bring together different areas of expertise that can help us build a stronger and more scalable business.”
The appointment comes at an important stage in WEBXPAY’s growth journey. While continuing to strengthen its position in Sri Lanka, the company is increasingly focused on expanding its footprint beyond Sri Lanka and taking its digital payments capabilities into international markets.
The company’s next phase of growth will focus on leveraging its technology, payments infrastructure, partnerships and expertise to pursue opportunities across selected international markets, while continuing to deepen its presence within Sri Lanka.
“Our ambition is no longer limited to building a leading payments business in Sri Lanka,” Piyadigama added. “We are expanding the WEBXPAY proposition beyond our home market. As we enter this next chapter, having people with strong international, banking and payments experience around the Board becomes increasingly important. Ryan brings exactly that combination, making his appointment an excellent fit for where WEBXPAY is heading.”
Ryan holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Western Sydney University. His professional recognition includes receiving a Merit Award for Business Leadership from the Australian Government Trade Commission in 2015 and being selected as one of three international finalists for Western Sydney University’s International Alumni of the Year Award in 2016.
His appointment further strengthens WEBXPAY’s leadership as the company accelerates its growth, expands its digital payments ecosystem and begins to pursue opportunities beyond Sri Lanka.
With a Board bringing together expertise across banking, payments, technology, business strategy, commercial growth, risk, operations and international markets, Ryan’s appointment adds another important layer of capability to WEBXPAY as it accelerates the growth phase.
