A seminar on the recent mid-year tax reforms will be held on 24 June 2026 at Cinnamon Lakeside from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
It will focus on significant changes to the Income Tax, SSCL, and VAT regimes, which are reshaping obligations for both businesses and individuals. The reforms also intensify compliance requirements through the criminalisation of tax offences.
The seminar will feature distinguished speakers, including Inland Revenue Department Senior Commissioner Aboobacker Nafeel, KPMG Principal and Head of Tax and Regulatory Suresh Perera, Gajma and Company Founder and Senior Partner N. R. Gajendran, CA Sri Lanka President Tishan Subasinghe, and Finance Ministry Tax Policy Advisor Thanuja Perera.
Key topics to be discussed include the increase in the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) rate, the criminalisation of tax offences, new income tax calculation methods, and the expanded powers granted to the CGIR to strengthen tax administration. The seminar will also address red flags for taxpayers, the approach of the Supreme Court, the introduction of digital VAT, the reduction of VAT and SSCL liability thresholds, and the impact of market prices on compliance and taxation.
This seminar is particularly relevant for accountants, tax consultants, directors and senior management in the banking and finance sector, regulators and compliance officers, risk, audit, and IT specialists, lawyers, and company secretaries.
