Top professional Channa Gunasekera appointed MBSL Insurance Chairman 

MBSL Insurance Company Ltd., has announced the appointment of Channa Gunasekera as the new Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors.

With a distinguished career spanning nearly 30 years in power and energy, infrastructure and logistics, retail and trading, banking and finance, manufacturing and IT/BPO services, Gunasekera brings a wealth of experience and expertise to lead the company in its next phase of growth. He is diversely skilled in leadership, strategic planning, corporate finance, stakeholder management, risk management, human resources, operations and project management.

As the Chairman, Gunasekera will be responsible for overseeing the company’s strategic direction, corporate governance, and fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders. His proven track record of leadership and vision will be instrumental in guiding MBSL Insurance towards achieving its long-term objectives and maximising shareholder value.

Prior to joining MBSL Insurance, Gunasekera held several key executive positions at leading organisations, where he played a pivotal role in driving business transformation and delivering sustainable results.

Gunasekera is currently the Group Chief Financial Officer of Wardena Venture Holdings Ltd, an emerging diversified.

He has held multiple strategic leadership positions in organisations such as: LAUGFS Holdings Ltd. Director - Group Finance, South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd. Chief Financial Officer, HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives Chief Financial Officer and John Keells Holdings PLC Vice President/Chief Financial Officer of BPO Operations and the IT Sector. His strategic acumen of multiple industries, coupled with a deep understanding of market dynamics, positions him as an invaluable asset to MBSL Insurance’s leadership team. 

Gunasekera is a strong finance and management professional qualified with an MBA from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a Fellow Member of both CA Sri Lanka and CIMA, UK.
