  • Students of Bachelor of Business Science (Hons) Specialisation in Financial Services Management stepping towards career success through preparation for the CFA Program

Bachelor of Business Science (Hons) Speciali-sation in Financial Services Management degree program offered by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Business, University of Moratuwa was accepted into the University Affiliation Program (UAP) of CFA Institute. The University Affiliation Program recognises academic institutions that embed at least 70% of the CFA® Program Candidate Body of Knowledge™ (CBOK) and principles in the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct into their curricula. Therefore, undergraduates following a degree listed under the UAP follow course content that is directly linked to the investment profession and relevant to professional practice. As a result, students may leverage employability and global mobility upon graduating by completing a degree program that is associated with a globally recognised professional credential.

CFA, President of the CFA Society of Sri Lanka Aruna Perera said ‘‘We warmly welcome the University of Moratuwa into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program once again. They are recognised as part of our mission of promoting the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence.”

Senior Professor N.D. Gunawardena, Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa added that CFA Institute University Affiliation program is an essential part of our finance education at the University of Moratuwa and we thank CFA Institute for welcoming the Bachelor of Business Science (Hons) Specialisation in Financial Services Management as an affiliated program in a Sri Lankan University.

CFA Institute, Asia Pacific, University Relations Director Florence Wong explained that through the UAP, recognised universities are entitled to a host of benefits including access to the Learning Ecosystem which contains resources including practice questions, mock exams, and access to all three levels of the CFA Program Curriculum, CFA Program Student Scholarships and access to a global network among others.

University of Moratuwa Faculty of Business Dean Prof. G. D. Samarasinghe acknowledged that the CFA designation is globally recognised as the gold standard in the finance industry. Also, he stated that the affiliation with CFA Institute helps the University of Moratuwa to ensure that the students graduate with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of finance, a deep understanding of the importance of ethics and professional standards and gain a significant competitive edge in the global job market.

CFA, Chair of the University Outreach Program CFA Society Sri Lanka Nuwan Jayawardena said that the Financial Services Management specialisation positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognised investment credential in the world. 

CFA Society Sri Lanka CEO Aruna Alwis added that entry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the curriculum of the Bachelor of Business Science (Hons) Specialisation in Financial Services Management is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the CFA examinations. 

Through participation in this program, the University of Moratuwa is eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year and work with CFA Society Sri Lanka to support student teams in the annual Research Challenge.
