Over 500 banking, technology and business leaders gathered at The CIO Confluence 2026 to explore how artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and intelligent customer engagement are reshaping the future of financial services.
Held under the theme “Beyond Digital: The Intelligent Banking Era,” the event brought together senior industry stakeholders at Cinnamon Life City of Dreams, Colombo, for a day of keynote insights, technology perspectives, breakout sessions and panel discussions focused on the next phase of banking transformation.
The event was graced by Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe as Chief Guest, who described the theme as particularly timely given the pace at which technology is reshaping the financial sector.
“CIOs are no longer the custodians of IT infrastructure, but co-architects of economic trust, as you harness intelligence to drive hyper-personalisation and rapid innovation” said Dr. Weerasinghe.
The Governor’s observation captured a central message of the Confluence: technology leadership in banking is increasingly extending beyond infrastructure and systems towards trust, innovation, customer experience and broader economic value.
The program opened with a keynote by at 3A Ventures Partner-Asia and ASEAN Economic Forum, BIU Board of Advisers Cyrus Daruwala, who examined the evolving technology priorities of financial institutions and the shift towards more intelligent and outcome-driven banking models. This was followed by perspectives from the event’s technology partners, offering insights across AI, cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure and digital transformation.
The conference then moved into two focused sessions; “Cyber Security in the Age of AI” and “AI-Powered Customer Engagement”, addressing two critical dimensions of the intelligent banking journey. While the first explored the changing threat landscape and the need for adaptive security, the latter examined how AI can help financial institutions move from conventional personalisation towards more predictive and intelligent customer experiences.
Two panel discussions further deepened the conversation. “AI vs. AI: Building a Zero-Trust Banking Ecosystem for the Next Generation of Cyber Threats” examined the evolving contest between AI-enabled attacks and AI-powered defence, while “From Personalization to Prediction: Reinventing Customer Engagement through Intelligent Banking” explored how data and intelligence are changing the way banks understand and serve their customers.
The Confluence was supported by a strong ecosystem of technology partners, with South Asian Technologies Group as Platinum Sponsor and Huawei as Gold Sponsor. Pinnacle Sponsors included Pinnacle Distribution with Dell Technologies and VMware, and Redington with Red Hat. Silver Sponsors were Eguardian with Fortinet, Cryptogen with Palo Alto Networks, and Aurionpro. Dialog Enterprise was the Official Digital Connectivity Partner, while Daily FT was the Official Print Media Partner.
With strong audience engagement throughout the program, The CIO Confluence 2026 provided a platform for banking and technology leaders to move beyond conversations around digital adoption and focus on the strategic role of intelligence, trust and innovation in shaping the next generation of financial services.
The event reinforced a defining shift in the banking technology landscape: the question is no longer simply how institutions become digital, but how they become intelligent, secure and customer-centric by design.
