  • Key initiative to educate and accelerate Sri Lanka’s digital future

Standard Chartered recently hosted the ‘Transact Digital - Corporate Masterclass,’ an exclusive industry forum designed to accelerate Sri Lanka’s transition towards a fully digital financial ecosystem. 

Held on 22 May 2025 at the Galle Face Hotel, the event aimed to educate senior executives from leading corporations, non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs), and insurance providers on the critical importance and benefits of transitioning from traditional paper-based financial transactions to a fully digital landscape, exploring the transformative potential of digital financial transactions.

Standard Chartered Sri Lanka CEO Bingumal Thewarathanthri, formally inaugurated the masterclass with an opening address that effectively set the tone for the proceedings and underscored the significance of the event. 

The keynote address at the event was delivered by Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya. A thought-provoking panel discussion followed featuring industry leaders, including LankaPay Ltd, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dinuka Perera, Standard Chartered India Regional Head, Cash Management and Transaction Banking, South Asia Sachit Sahni, Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka Ltd Chief Financial Officer Maduranga Kulathilaka and MAS Legato Ltd, CEO Suranga Nanayakkara highlighting the transformative potential of digital transactions in Sri Lanka.

The master class focused on building awareness around the significant changes and plans initiated by the country’s leadership towards digitising the economy. Participants were able to gain insights into impending changes related to digital clearing and had the opportunity to explore successful client stories from Sri Lanka that highlighted the adoption of digital transactions. Additionally, the event shed light on the advancements being made in India and the wider region in this space, showcasing the global shift towards digital financial solutions.
