Sri Lanka recognised at MDRT event in Australia

Sri Lanka has earned international recognition in the global life insurance profession through Suranjith Godagama, who has become the first Sri Lankan to receive the MDRT Field Leadership Platinum Award and the first Sri Lankan invited to speak at the MDRT Field Leadership Forum, which was held in Sydney, Australia, on 24 August 2026.

The MDRT Centre for Field Leadership is a membership association for financial services and insurance agency managers, home office executives, and field leaders. Part of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), it equips leaders with management, recruiting, training, and culture-building strategies through peer networking, events, and leadership certification programs

His presentation, titled “Coaching for PEAK Performance,” contained practical leadership insights on developing agency leaders and building high-performing sales teams with delegates from around the world.

Suranjith began his insurance career in 1993 as an Agency Manager at Ceylinco Insurance. Within two years, he developed the company’s Best Agency Team and was recognised as the Best Sales Manager in 1995. He later held senior leadership and talent development roles at Eagle Insurance (now AIA) and Union Assurance, where he led leadership development initiatives and established one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised agency leadership academies.

With more than 35 years of experience spanning FMCG, pharmaceuticals, insurance, sales leadership, coaching and human resource development, he has trained and coached thousands of insurance professionals and agency leaders across Sri Lanka and Asia.

Reflecting on this achievement, Suranjith said: “Receiving the MDRT Field Leadership Platinum Award is not only a personal honour but also a proud moment for Sri Lanka. My mission is to contribute towards developing the next generation of agency leaders who will build stronger businesses, serve families with excellence and bring greater international recognition to our country.”
