The secondary Bond market saw a recovery yesterday, with renewed buying interest driving yields lower across selected tenors.
The rebound also coincided with an easing in global oil prices and a moderation in global Bond yields, providing further support to market sentiment. Activity and transaction volumes remained robust, underpinned by healthy investor participation.
The 15.10.28 and 15.12.28 maturities traded down the ranges of 10.85%-10.75% and 10.90%-10.75% respectively. The 15.09.29 traded at the rate of 11.05%. The 01.08.30 and 15.10.30 traded down the rates of 11.45%-11.35% each. The 01.02.31 maturity saw a strong rally dropping 20 basis points intraday to trade down the range of 11.65% to 11.45%. The 15.12.32 maturity traded down the range of 11.80%-11.70% while the 15.01.33 and 01.11.33 traded at the rate of 11.80% and 11.95% respectively. The 15.09.34 traded at 12.17%.
In the money market, the net liquidity surplus was recorded at Rs. 107.84 billion. Rs. 58.89 billion was deposited at the Central Bank’s SDFR (Standing Deposit Facility Rate) of 8.25% as against an amount of Rs. 0.55 billion withdrawn from the Central Bank’s SLFR (Standing Lending Facility Rate) of 9.25%.
In addition, the Domestic Operations Department (DOD) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka mopped out Rs. 49.50 billion by way of an overnight repo auction at a weighted average yield of 8.71% and Rs. 20 billion through a 28-day term repo auction at the weighted average yield of 9.19%.
The weighted average yields on overnight call money and repos were recorded at 8.90% and 8.96% respectively.
Forex market
The USD/LKR rate on spot contracts was seen closing at
Rs. 331.50/331.90 yesterday, with the rupee appreciating from Rs. 331.85/332.25 recorded on the previous day. The total USD/LKR traded volume for 15 September amounted to $ 45.50 million.
