Secondary Bond market activity subdued; yields consolidate

The secondary Bond market yesterday opened the new trading week slowly, with activity remaining subdued. However, transaction volumes were seen at healthy levels boosted by a number of block transactions. Yields were seen holding broadly steady and consolidated around the levels established following last week’s rally.

In terms of the secondary Bond market trade summary limited trades were observed on selected tenor. 

The 01.06.26 and 01.08.26 maturities traded at the rates of 8.30% and 8.35% respectively. The 15.02.28 maturity traded within the range of 8.98%-8.99% and the 15.03.28 maturity traded within the range of 8.99%-9.00%. The 01.05.28 and 01.07.28 maturities traded within at the rates of 9.05% and 9.06% respectively.  The 01.09.28 and 15.12.28 maturities were seen trading at the rate of 9.10% each. The 15.10.29 maturity traded at the rate of 9.48%. The 01.10.32 maturity traded at the rate of 10.25%.

Sri Lanka’s GDP rose 5.4% YoY in 3Q25, according to the Department of Census and Statistics this is up from 4.9% YoY growth recorded in 2Q25.

The total secondary market Treasury Bond/Bill transacted volume for 12 December 2025 was Rs. 21.45 billion.

In money markets, the net liquidity surplus decreased further to Rs. 69.82 billion. An amount of Rs. 83.13 billion was deposited at Central Bank’s SDFR (Standing Deposit Facility Rate) of 7.25%, while an amount of Rs. 13.32 billion was withdrawn from the Central Bank’s SLFR (Standard Lending Facility Rate) of 8.25%.

The weighted average rates on call money and repo were registered at 7.97% and 8.02% 

respectively.

Forex Market 

In the Forex market, the USD/LKR rate on spot contracts closed the day depreciating to Rs. 309.25/309.35 as against Rs. 309.05/309.15 the previous day.

The total USD/LKR traded volume for 12 December was $ 99.95 million.
