Romani Parakrama

Romani Parakrama has been appointed to the Board of Commercial Bank PLC as an Independent/Non-Executive Director.
Parakrama is a highly accomplished professional with extensive experience in corporate communication, financial services, and corporate governance.
Her distinguished career in the banking sector includes over 27 years of experience in corporate and retail banking at prominent international institutions. She served at Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore in various leadership capacities, including Regional Head, Internal Communications for Southeast Asia and Head of Sustainability, Brand and Sponsorship.
In Sri Lanka, her roles at Standard Chartered Bank included Head of Corporate Affairs, Head of priority Banking, and Head of Cash Management. Her banking experience also extends to key positions at Amro Bank, American Express Bank, and Societe Generale Bank.
Parakrama, a seasoned executive with an exceptional ability to navigate complex corporate environments, previously held the position of Group Head of Corporate Communication for the David Pieris Group. She demonstrated exceptional leadership by serving as Non-Executive Chairman of several key entities within the David Pieris Group, including Assetline Insurance Brokers Ltd., Assetline Capital Ltd., Assetline Securities Ltd., and Assetline Corporate Services Ltd.
She also held Board memberships within the David Pieris Automotive cluster, Assetline Finance Ltd., and various overseas subsidiary companies of the David Pieris Group.
Parakrama is also an independent Non-Executive Director of Vallibel One PLC.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Smith College, USA, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the prestigious phi Beta Kappa Honour Society. She holds professional accreditations as a Credit & Risk professional from both Standard Chartered Bank and American Express Bank.
In addition to her corporate achievements, Parakrama contributes her expertise on a voluntary basis as a member of the Board of the Sri Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation.
