People’s Bank receives ISO 9001:2015 recertification for International Trade Operations

Trade Services – International Banking Division of People’s Bank has been awarded with the SLS ISO 9001:2015 accreditation once more from Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) in continuous recognition of the quality of its Trade Services products which ensures the security and efficiency of the import/export services offered.  

The Trade Services department provides a centralised processing mechanism for Sri Lanka’s largest commercial banking network with 737 branches and service centres, all equipped with easy-to-use banking systems that facilitate international transactions, thereby catering to the needs of a customer base of over 10 million who would otherwise have to venture across borders for imports and exports. 

Original accreditation for quality management has been issued in 2013 for the Trade Services – International Banking Division of People’s Bank and was renewed in April 2016, after assessment and approval done in accordance with the requirements of SLS/ ISO 9001:2008.

Upon being  independently audited by the Audit team of SLSI and the requirements and criteria set under new ISO version 9001:2015 being assessed, Trade Services division has ultimately being declared as qualified for recertification for the second consecutive time which will be valid until April 2021.

In par with the new standard, the Trade Services Department is committed to be an innovative and high quality service provider by maintaining its customer centric approach while providing timely and responsive services through competent and experienced professional staff.  

Continuous innovation and investment in dynamic systems and technology to satisfy customers’ rapidly changing requirements, by addressing risks and opportunities that can affect conformity of trade products/services and paying attention for continual improvements of quality in all operations in compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements including International Trade Finance practices and ISO 9001:2015 standard, will continue to be cornerstones of the department’s operations. 

Official handing over of the recertification for Quality Management System of ISO 9001:2015/SLS ISO 9001:2015 was recently held. 

The certification was received by Banking Operations Senior Deputy General Manager M.A. Boniface Silva and the event was graced by the participation of SLSI Director General Dr. Siddhika Senarathna, SLSI Deputy Director General A. Ekanayake and SLSI Director Systems Certification Samanthi Narangoda, and from People’s Bank Transaction Banking and Financial Institutions Deputy General Manager N.R. Wijayaratne,  Trade Finance Assistant General Manager A.S.M.V. Kumarasiri and Trade Services Chief Manager Kamala Subasinghe along with ISO team members of Trade Services.
