The National Savings Bank (NSB) held a special series of programs for this Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Prioritising culture and traditions, these programs included various activities for the well-being of the people.

The first day of transactions at the Main Branch was conducted under the leadership of General Manager/CEO Shashi Kandambi and Senior Deputy General Manager K. Raveendran.

National Savings Bank extended a cordial invitation to all its customers to visit their branches on the 16 April for their New Year transactions and to participate in various programs of national importance.

Among the special programs organised by the National Savings Bank for this Sinhala and Tamil New Year were:

  • Ayurvedic almanac with

    New Year rituals:

An Ayurvedic almanac, including auspicious times related to New Year rituals, in Sinhala and Tamil languages, distributed by the National Savings Bank from 7 April.

In addition to the New Year rituals, this Ayurvedic almanac also includes special advice prepared by the Department of Ayurveda for physical and mental well-being.

This almanac was available through the National Savings Bank’s branch network and post offices.

  • A plant for  New Year

   transactions:

The National Savings Bank has arranged to gift a plant with economic value to customers who conduct New Year transactions with the bank.

Under the program “A Plant for Auspicious Time – The Ritual of Planting at an Auspicious Time”, these plants were distributed on 16 April at 262 National Savings Bank branches island-wide.

This program has been implemented since 2019 under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim here is also to educate customers about environmental value through the NSB Agroforestry Project, which has been implemented by the National Savings Bank since 2017.

  • Environmental responsibility:

The dawn of a new year is also an environmental festival. Protecting natural resources including trees, plants, animals, and waterways, and creating a fertile environment is considered a corporate responsibility of the National Savings Bank.

This is also in line with the bank’s core principles of saving and thrift.
