The National Savings Bank yesterday celebrated its 54th anniversary at its Head Office in Kollupitiya.
The first bank in Sri Lanka, which began the financial history of Sri Lanka in 1832, was officially established as the National Savings Bank on 16 March 1972, by merging the then existing savings-related financial institutions.
Giving priority to religious observances, the ceremony was held under the patronage of National Savings Bank Chairman Dr. Harsha Cabral PC., with the participation of General Manager/CEO Rohana Bandara Weerakoon, Senior Deputy General Managers K. Ravindran and Devika Silva, top management and staff.
Addressing the event, Chairman Dr. Harsha Cabral PC thanked the customers who have placed their trust in the National Savings Bank for 54 years, and the staff who have worked tirelessly for the achievements and dividends achieved by the National Savings Bank. He said that in the coming years, he hopes to make the daily banking activities of the people easier and provide attractive services through more new services. He further stated that he firmly believes that his staff has the strength and courage to never waver in the face of challenges, and that it is his intention to see them continue to break all barriers in the future, providing efficient service to their clients and adding pride to the bank.
General Manager/CEO Rohana Bandara Weerakoon, explained the digital services that the National Savings Bank has recently implemented, stating that it always strives to provide the highest level of service to its clients. He also thanked the staff, both present and past, who have dedicated their efforts behind the achievements of the National Savings Bank as a state bank, and said that through those dedications, the National Savings Bank will be able to rise to the top in the future.
The National Savings Bank, which was founded in 1972 under the leadership of Dr. N. M. Perera, has a history of over 54 years as a pioneer in guiding Sri Lankans to save. The National Savings Bank can be considered a giant bank that has been operating in the financial sector for more than 5 decades, maintaining the trust of the people, being a financial strength to all strata from the grassroots level and having 100% state protection. The sole objective of the National Savings Bank is to be a financial strength for the future generation who will conquer the world tomorrow, by using the dividends received for the betterment of the country and the people.
