NDB Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing home-grown inventions and innovations by partnering with the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) for the fifth International Inventions and Innovations Exhibition and Competition – “Sahasak Nimavum”. As the official banking partner, NDB continues its support for a movement that has grown to become a national symbol of creativity, problem-solving, and inclusive progress.

The culmination of months of regional and provincial competitions, the national phase of “Sahasak Nimavum” took place from the 25 to 27 April at the BMICH, Colombo. The event showcased over 1,000 inventions selected from across Sri Lanka, featuring diverse participation from schools, universities, tri-forces, professional institutions, and independent inventors. A special international category brought together innovators from Romania, Brunei, and Iran, making this year’s edition a truly global celebration of invention.

From a sustainability standpoint, NDB views this initiative as a catalyst for inclusive economic transformation. By celebrating and empowering inventors, the competition not only drives technological and entrepreneurial advancement but also contributes to key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and industry. These innovations hold the potential to elevate the country’s socio-economic fabric and attract critical investment into Sri Lanka.

A unique strength of the “Sahasak Nimavum” initiative is its grassroots reach. Inventors from every province have been encouraged to take part, bringing forward a wide array of solutions shaped by lived experience and community insight. This broad-based approach fosters a strong entrepreneurial culture and highlights the need for inclusive financial solutions to support such ventures – a commitment NDB Bank has passionately championed.

Commenting on the partnership, NDB Bank Head of Corporate Sustainability Committee Lasantha Dassanayake stated, “Our involvement in “Sahasak Nimavum” is driven by a deep belief in the transformative power of Sri Lankan innovation. These inventors are not just dreamers; they are nation-builders. As a bank that values sustainability and progress, we are honoured to stand beside them.”

NDB Bank remains committed to fostering innovation as part of its broader sustainability mandate, aligned with the national agenda of economic empowerment, technological advancement, and inclusive development. As the national-level competition takes center stage, NDB looks forward to celebrating the brilliance of Sri Lankan inventors and continuing its role as a trusted partner in their journey to success.
