KPMG appoints Karthikeyan Somasundaram as a Principal for KPMG Sri Lanka

KPMG Sri Lanka, a member firm of the KPMG network of independent member firms has appointed Karthikeyan Somasundaram as a Principal of the Firm with effect from 01 April 2024.

Karthik’s experience with KPMG spans over 17 years with his primary focus in Deal Advisory specializing in Transaction Services. During his tenure, Karthik also served as the Resident Director for Advisory and Tax in KPMG Maldives for a period of 4 years. Currently in addition to leading the Transaction Services team in KPMG Sri Lanka, he also serves as the lead overlooking selected advisory functions for KPMG Maldives. 

He has been extensively engaged in providing Due Diligence services relating to buy-side and sell-side of M&A transactions. Karthik has led teams involved in numerous advisory engagements ranging from Financial and Commercial Due Diligences, Financial Feasibility Studies, Development of Business Plans, Market Assessment Studies, SPA Assistance and Post Completion Support.

Karthik has led multiple landmark engagements to facilitate the investment decisions on behalf of marquee clientele ranging from Private Equity Investors, Venture Capitalists, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Angel Investors to Private Investors. In addition to extensive knowledge of the Sri Lankan and Maldives business and regulatory environment, he has also worked with numerous cross border KPMG teams from USA, Europe, Middle East & Asia to facilitate inward and outward-bound investment decisions. His domain experience covers an extensive number of industries which includes Tourism and Leisure, Education, Manufacturing, Energy, Financial Services etc.

Karthik also advises several upcoming Sri Lankan based start-up companies to prepare them for potential capital infusions and facilitate the investment process.

He played a critical role in establishing and sustaining the Transaction Services Practice within KPMG Sri Lanka. He is skilled in mentoring and developing employees to help them grow professionally and has an extensive track record of leading employees to higher management positions within the firm. 

Karthik is an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK (ACMA) and holds an MBA in International Business and Finance from the University of the West of Scotland.
