The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) yesterday kicked off their latest Australian investor push in Sydney, seeking to attract institutional and diaspora capital by showcasing Sri Lanka’s capital market performance, economic outlook and investment opportunities.

The ‘Invest Sri Lanka’ Investor Forum, organised by the SEC and CSE in association with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Australia, was held at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, bringing together investors, business leaders, policymakers and market participants.

The Sydney event forms part of a series of investor forums being held in Sydney and Melbourne from 17 to 20 August, marking the SEC and CSE’s return to Australia after nearly nine years. The roadshow follows ‘Invest Sri Lanka’ forums held in Dubai and Riyadh in January.

The Australian campaign is targeting institutional investors and the growing Sri Lankan diaspora, with Australia having emerged as one of the top 10 sources of foreign investor inflows into the Sri Lankan capital market as well as remittance inflows.

SEC and CSE data show Australian investor buy turnover increased by more than 700% from Rs.72.9 million to Rs.603.8 million within six months of the previous Australian roadshow in 2017. By end-2025, buy turnover had risen to Rs.1.85 billion.

SEC Chairman Senior Prof. D.B.P.H. Dissabandara said Sri Lanka was strengthening its capital market through regulation, transparency and investor protection.

“Sri Lanka is strengthening its capital market through robust regulation, greater transparency and stronger investor protection, creating a more trusted and resilient environment for investors. We invite Australian investors to explore the opportunities emerging in our market,” he said.

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and CHEC Port City Colombo are also participating in the Australian forums, while Hatton National Bank Group has joined as platinum sponsor. CHEC Port City Colombo is participating as a collaborative partner.
