HNB Finance PLC, a leading integrated financial services provider in Sri Lanka, reinforced its commitment to driving sustainable economic growth with the successful completion of its latest ‘Financial Literacy for Development’ workshops in Wennappuwa and Nawalapitiya.

Facilitated by the respective branch teams, the sessions were designed to equip micro and small-scale entrepreneurs (MSMEs) with practical financial management skills essential for long-term business success. This initiative forms part of HNB Finance’s broader strategy to foster financial inclusion, strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship, and contribute to poverty alleviation across the country. Over the years, the company’s targeted financial literacy programs have empowered thousands of MSMEs islandwide, enabling them to build resilient and sustainable enterprises.

Led by HNB Finance Head of Skill Development Anura Udawatta, the financial literacy workshops addressed essential topics, including business account management, debt management, and profit reinvestment, cost control, and identifying new business opportunities. Held in Wennappuwa and Nawalapitiya, the event hosted over 200 participants, equipping them with critical financial knowledge to enhance their business operations and drive sustainable growth. Participants were guided through strategies to strengthen their financial practices, positioning them for long-term success and resilience in the marketplace. HNB Finance also recognised and awarded the most innovative business ideas presented by the attending entrepreneurs, celebrating their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Each participant received a copy of the company’s comprehensive manual, Financial Literacy for Growth, a resource designed to serve as a lasting reference for managing their businesses effectively.

Commenting on the success of the program, HNB Finance Managing Director and CEO Chaminda Prabhath stated, “Financial literacy is a critical component that drives growth and sustainability within any business model. Our continued efforts to empower the MSME community have played a significant role in enabling micro and small-scale businesses to operate sustainably over the years. With improved financial understanding, these enterprises are better equipped to grow and even expand into larger operations. In addition to the workshops, HNB Finance offers tailored financial support through working capital solutions, further assisting MSMEs in transitioning from micro-enterprises to thriving small and medium-sized businesses. This ongoing dedication underscores the company’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and promoting sustainable economic development across Sri Lanka.”
